Fantasy Football 2019 FanSided Mock Draft Pick 5 Breakdown
By Bill Pivetz
What could your fantasy football team look like if you draft from the fifth spot?
On Sunday night, 12 FanSided Fantasy Sports contributors participated in a fantasy football mock draft. The draft positions were chosen at random. I was given the fifth pick. It’s not my ideal spot but I made it work the best I could.
I would rather have a pick in the top four or at the end of the round. Now more than in years past, having a top running back is important. There are very few three-down backs that can rack up 250 carries in a season. In fact, there were only six that reached that threshold. Of those six, four reached over 1,000 yards and two had at least 10 touchdowns.
However, with the NFL becoming more of a passing game, some would say drafting a running back early is pointless. Draft the top wide receivers and tight ends and get your running backs later. Everyone has a strategy until one pick ruins it all.
We used Yahoo! as our site but there are plenty of other sites available for mock drafting. We were drafting based on 0.5-point PPR scoring. It gives a boost to all pass catchers, even some running backs.
The draft was 15 rounds, nine starters and six bench. The roster construction was one quarterback, two running backs, two wide receivers, a tight end, two flex and a defense. We did not use a kicker for two reasons. One, no one cares which kicker you draft. Two, they are replaceable on a weekly basis. It’s not worth talking about.
The team is fake but the results are real. Here is what I drafted from the fifth spot in a 12-team league.
