42. Best college football teams of all-time: 1993 Florida State

This is Bobby Bowden’s best team. In his 18th season at Florida State, the Noles got Bowden his first national title behind Heisman quarterback, Charlie Ward and a nasty defense led by Derrick Brooks.

Ward’s offense may have been dynamic, but their defense was just as tough to crack. In their first five matchups, Florida State beat opponents by an average score of 46-3.

Their first challenge came on Oct. 9, when No. 3 Miami, who had won 31 games in a row, came to town. Devin Bush ran back an interception for a pick-six and led the Seminoles to victory. Throughout the season, they defeated No. 17 Clemson, No. 13 North Carolina (on the road), No. 15 Virginia, No. 7 Florida and No. 2 Nebraska.

Their only slip-up came in a game against then-No. 2 Notre Dame, who narrowly defeated them by a touchdown at Notre Dame Stadium. Still, though, this team was ridiculously talented and easily disposed of most opposition. The team featured big names like the above-mentioned Brooks and Ward in addition to Sam Cowart, Warrick Dunn and more.

This team had great chemistry and any on-field tape watching shows the sheer dominance they had the ability to stow on opponents, working as a solidified unit. They also gave Florida State their first national title and also ranks in here on our list as one of the greatest college football teams of all time.
