Fantasy Football Mock Draft Pick 10: Rounds 7-9

Round 7, pick 82: Jared Cook –

Jared Cook is a very athletic tight end who seems to just always under-perform my expectation…much like Jeff Green in the NBA or something. I love him for his potential. I’m guilty to a fault of this at times and this is one of those times but I’m fine with the pick.

I think he’s going to do really well in New Orleans. He held his own last year with Carr as his quarterback on a terrible Raiders team.

New Orleans is going to have a ton of targets to go around and they have one of the best quarterbacks in the game in Drew Brees so I’m not terribly concerned about having Michael Thomas and Jared Cook on the team.

I probably could have held off and taken Vance McDonald later in the draft but I knew of at least three Steelers fans in our draft and as silly as this sounds, you have to take that into account. If I missed on Vance later it would have been really slim pickings. Guys around me were taking quarterbacks and round 7 is too early for me to be doing that.

Round 8, pick 87: Cam Newton -

Apparently round 8 is NOT too early for me to take a quarterback in a fantasy football mock draft as most of the good guys were gone. Historically I’ve held off until really late and gone with Phillip Rivers multiple years in a row and with great success.

However, I think Cam has a big comeback year assuming his shoulder is healthy. That’s a big if but from what I’m hearing and seeing, he should be ok. Everyone seems to be high on DJ Moore and my guy Curtis Samuel so it stands to reason if his targets are set for a good year, he must also have a good year, right?

Also, Greg Olsen is back and hopefully his feet/legs are going to stay under him and he’ll also stay healthy. Add in the fact they have the consensus overall number 1 or 2 pick in Christian McCaffrey and he catches a TON of passes plus Cam runs it in near the goal line, I’m here for a big year.

Round 9, pick 106: Emmanuel Sanders -

At this point I’m taking a flyer on a guy who could have a really big year but is going to be coming off of a nasty injury to bounce back from. Manny Sanders tore his Achilles last year which is rough in any sport but I have to imagine as a wide receiver, it’s particularly tough.

From what I’m hearing though, he’s participating in team drills. I really screwed up here though not realizing Miles Sanders was still available.

I’m hearing so many good things out of Philly about this guy and normally I like to avoid the Philly backfield just like I do with the New England backfield when it comes to fantasy football.

Let this be a lesson to you that you need to ensure your screen doesn’t just have whatever sites rankings as how the players available are sorted.
