No. 8: Arkansas Razorbacks
One of the most underrated fight songs in all of college sports belongs to the University of Arkansas. Known as, “The Best in Sight and Sound,” the Razorback’s Marching Band (RMB) is the largest student organization on campus with 350-plus members.
The university actually has two bands, the RMB and the Hogwild Band. The Hogwild Band supports the volleyball team, as well as men’s and women’s basketball at home and in tournament play, but only has 104 members. Only.
The Razorback’s fight song, titled, “Arkansas Fight,” was penned by a student, William Edwin Douglass in 1913. His music professor, Henry D. Tovey, helped with the song by adding chords and instrumentation.
The Razorback’s Never Yield campaign, introduced in 2013, is derived from a line in the fight song that states, “Razorbacks will never yield,” a motto the school aspires to apply to all Arkansas athletics.
“We are asking all Razorbacks to join us in recognizing our rich heritage of success while celebrating the distinguishing determination displayed by our student-athletes, coaches and fans,” former athletic director Jeff Long said in 2013. “At the University of Arkansas, we will Never Yield!”
