College football 2019: Top 10 players, ranked – Tua or Trevor at No. 1?
By Phil Poling
The first quarterback to land on our list is junior Bulldog Jake Fromm. Although he’s been surrounded by elite teammates since stepping foot on campus, Fromm is the one that steers the ship. He started 14 of the team’s 15 games and was named the Freshman of the Year by the league’s coaches after a 13-2 record.
Fromm’s style was more game-manager than gunslinger in 2017, but he still posted a decent touchdown to interception ratio of 24:7. He improved across the board as a sophomore – more attempts, more completions, a higher completion percentage, more yards, more touchdowns, less turnovers. This spike in the box score didn’t result in more wins for Georgia as they finished 11-3, but many believed the 2018 Bulldogs were the most talented team in the country.
At 6-foot-2 and 220 lbs., Fromm possesses the size to deal with the punishment of the SEC. After the first couple cupcakes are out of the way, a SEC schedule can be a real grind; Fromm’s displayed he can withstand the gauntlet.
Fifty-seven career touchdowns. Twenty-four career wins. One SEC Championship. The only thing missing from Fromm’s budding resume is a College Football Playoff National Championship. Can he make it happen in 2019? Georgia starts the season on the road, playing at Vanderbilt on August 31.
