MLB DFS Pitching Primer: Cash Game Ace

Zack Wheeler (10.8k FD, 10.7k DK) vs. Miami

Wheeler is the most expensive pitcher on the slate but he may well be worth his salary tonight as he has the best match-up of any pitcher. He faces the offensively inept Marlins at home, a team that we have been targeting with right-handers all season long. They rank at or near the bottom in almost every offensive category against right-handed pitching and have a 24% strikeout rate.

This plays right into Wheeler’s strength, as he is really tough on righties allowing only a .291 wOBA this season. The Marlins implied run total is barely over three runs, one of the lowest totals I’ve seen in a while. When Zack met these Miami bats back in May, he struck out 11 fish over 7 innings while allowing only two earned runs.

There was some speculation that the Mets were shopping Wheeler in trades as they brought in Marcus Stroman and shipped out Jason Vargas, but he’s still a Met and they are going to need him to keep pitching the way he has lately. He’s been great over his last six starts, going over 20 DK points five times including a 31 DK point performance in his last start against the White Sox.

Wheeler is rolling right now and I expect him to roll right over the fish tonight at home and dominate.
