2. Shea Patterson – Michigan

The Big Ten’s version of the LSU Tigers, the Michigan Wolverines have struggled to get to the big game under head coach Jim Harbaugh. Either disappointing losses or continual struggles against the team’s biggest rival in the Ohio State Buckeyes and Urban Meyer, Michigan have not been able to fully breakthrough.

When the team announced She Patterson would be joining the squad after an impressive stint with Ole Miss, Michigan fans rejoiced after they finally had a quarterback they could rely on. Patterson is athletic, has a great arm and can manage games as a good quarterback does.

The team went into last year feeling like the tide may have been turning, unfortunately, it did not. Finishing 10-3 and losing in the Peach Bowl, it was another disappointing result for Wolverines fans.

Shea Patterson now enters his final year, with a lot of pressure mounted over his legacy. With backup quarterback Dylan McCaffrey expected to also get some run this year, Patterson has to be sharp or he will lose his job very quickly. Harbaugh has already hinted at a possible rotation at Big Ten media day.

Patterson not only has to take Michigan to the playoffs for the first time, but he has to do it with a young quarterback breathing down his neck. It will not be difficult with the most competitive coach in college football also critiquing your every throw.
