DraftKings PGA: 2019 BMW Championship Picks and Analysis
The Fedex Cup is in full swing and continues this week with the BMW Championship! Patrick Reed got hot at the right time and took home the hardware at The Northern Trust. The course looked beautiful, the golf was entertaining, and it all culminated in me being really pumped to see how this FedEx Final is going to play out.
I also am amazed at how good Patrick Reed gets when he has the lead. Every 10 foot putt for par was center cup and he knew it prior to it leaving his putter. He is a fierce competitor. The win means a lot, but I would not be surprised if he was on the greens the next day grinding, preparing for the BMW Championship.
The PGA Tour and the Fedex Cup moves from Jersey to Chicago for the BMW Championship. Medinah Country Club plays host to a PGA Tour event for the first time since the Ryder Cup in 2012. Europe edged the US by one point in that showdown.
Of note, players in the field who competed in 2012 include: Tiger Woods (Won PGA Championship at Medinah in 2006), Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, Francesco Molinari, Webb Simpson, Matt Kuchar, Phil Mickelson, Ian Poulter, and Jim Furyk.
Medinah Country Club is an absolute beast. The course is playing 7,613 yards, and was shortened for this event. That is right, it was SHORTENED to 7,613 yards. They will play one of the par-4’s at a drivable 331 yards.
The course will play as a par-72, with 2-3 par-5’s being attackable in 2. Medinah Course 3 boasts extreme length, wide fairways, challenging rough, and small greens. The greens will be tight, running 12-13 on the stemp.
The average score to par at this tract will likely come in around 15 to 20-under. The tree-lined fairways will keep the bombers in check, but bombing is definitely a big advantage. I think that long irons are even a bigger advantage this week, as guys will have a lot of those opportunities.
We stay with Bentgrass again this week, which is a huge advantage to the golfers who are familiar with the surface. What I will put a lot of emphases this week is Good Drives Gained, Approach, Par-5 scoring, and Bermudagrass putting. My estimate is that the winner of this tournament posts a 17-under.
