FanDuel MLB DFS Breakdown: Cash Game Arm

Aaron Civale (8200) @ Detroit

I’m well aware that Gerrit Cole is the safest pitching option on the slate, but rostering him at his 12k pricetag is not going to leave you enough salary to get the bats that you want tonight and I’m pretty comfortable dropping down in the 7-8k price range in both cash games and GPPs tonight.

After watching the Indians worst pitcher, Adam Plutko, strike out 9 Tigers over 5 and 2/3 innings I took to Twitter last night to vent my frustration.

Maybe I’m too hard on Plutko, but his advanced statistics still point to him not being that good. Meanwhile, Aaron Civale has been excellent for the Indians since joining the rotation this month. He’s now made five starts for Cleveland and all but one of them have been “quality starts” as he came up just one out shy of his sixth QS in his last outing against the Mets.

Civale’s numbers are impressive across the board. He hasn’t overpowered hitters and piled up big strikeout numbers, but he doesn’t walk guys and has managed to keep the ball in the yard as he hasn’t allowed a home run yet in 29+ innings. Detroit’s 26.5% strikeout rate is something we are going to want to continue to target and their team wOBA and ISO ratings are second-worst on the slate trailing only Miami.

Civale’s lone start against Detroit came back in June when he was called up for a spot start. He pitched very well in that game allowing only two walks and three hits while striking out six Tigers over six innings. Lock him into those cash game lineups, I think he has a nice 30-35 FD point floor tonight in this spot.
