Draftkings NFL GPP pivots: Running Back

Chalk: Dalvin Cook, Chris Carson, Christian McCaffrey, Austin Ekeler

Pivots: Leonard Fournette, Mark Ingram, Kerryon Johnson

Let’s start with a brief analysis of the chalky backs. Carson and Cook are guys who are cash game locks and I love them a lot in tournaments, too. This is looking like a week where the cheaper backs are going to be really popular (thank goodness that the Tony Pollard value evaporated with Zeke resigning).

C-Mac is always going to be more popular on Draftkings due to his massive receptions upside with the full PPR scoring. All three of those guys are strong plays that I would not fade in tournaments. Austin Ekeler is a guy who looks like he could be in a timeshare with Justin Jackson, who I think is a better overall back so he’s the only one I’m fading from this group.

Leonard Fournette is the second Jaguar we have to talk about this week. While I’m not a huge fan of his in general, I won’t hold that against him this week as he is underpriced and is in a tremendous spot here against the Chiefs and their 32nd ranked run defense from last year. To be fair, Fournette is not a total sleeper as his ownership is still projected in the top 6 backs, but as I said earlier, we aren’t necessarily looking for players who are super low-owned all the time, we are looking for players who are under-owned relative to their ceilings.

With the departure of T.J. Yeldon this year, Fournette should see his passing game role grow which makes him less game-script dependent. That means if Jacksonville does trail early, we could still see the big back rack up some receiving yards. He’s the goalline back for the Jags and a great short-yardage runner, giving him some nice touchdown equity, too. Stacking Foles with Fournette is going to give you an opportunity to get a piece of every Jacksonville touchdown in this game.
