Heisman rankings Week 2: Joe Burrow enters the conversation
8. Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson
Trevor Lawrence still hasn’t lit it up in the first two games but Clemson is 2-0. He’s ranked at No. 8 based on what he can do and the talent level being so high. He’s got weapons around him in Justyn Ross, Tee Higgins and the return of Amari Rodgers. He threw for 268 yards and a touchdown, including a pretty one to Ross that showed off his NFL-ready arm.
Lawrence should have plenty of opportunities for 300-yard games and multiple touchdown efforts, including as early as next week against a Syracuse team that gave up 63 points to Maryland.
7. Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State
While it may not have featured a 51-yard rushing touchdown on the first drive of the game, Justin Fields impressed again at the helm of the Buckeyes offense as Ohio State shut out Cincinnati. The quarterback was effective both through the air and with his legs once again, just as he was in their season-opening win over Florida Atlantic.
Fields went 20-of-25 for 224 yards and two touchdowns through the air while rushing for 42 total yards and another two touchdowns. After totaling five touchdowns in his debut for Ryan Day’s offense, it’s clear that the Georgia transfer is going to find the end zone plenty this season. For his candidacy to really heat up, though, he’s going to need to get his yardage totals up moving forward.
