5 summer shows you can binge-watch before fall
3. The Loudest Voice
Another prominent person of interest this summer was Roger Ailes. Not for any reason that would celebrate him, no, just new content that would dive into the secret he and Fox News kept from the world for years. The Loudest Voice is a Showtime original program starring Russell Crowe as Ailes, the former guide and creator of Fox News as we know it now. It premiered on June 30 and only has seven episodes, which again, makes it binge material. However, the content here might not be best viewed in one or two sittings; this could easily be a show you should be following once a week.
Crowe delivers a chameleon performance eerily similar to Christian Bale’s portrayal of Dick Cheney in last years Vice. Additionally, Naomi Watts plays Gretchen Carlson, the first woman to publicly come forward and take action against Ailes for his alleged sexual misconduct. While the story is imperative and full of great scenes, the timing is a bit off. The entire plot with Fox News has taken a far backseat to a great majority of people. Their relevance has waned and dwindled even prior to these allegations.
The interesting piece here is that a movie about this exact moment in history is upcoming as well and features a slightly more intriguing cast (Margot Robbie, Charlize Theron, and Nicole Kidman lead that cast). Bombshell is expected to hit theaters in December of 2019. However, until then, this show could be a binge-watch to prepare for it.
