2020 NFL mock draft: Bengals land Justin Herbert
By Brad Weiss
The New York Jets were absolutely embarrassed by the Cleveland Browns on Monday Night Football in Week 2, as they were dominated without some of their key players on the field. Quarterback Sam Darnold will miss the foreseeable future with mono, and on the defensive side of the ball, both C.J. Mosley and Quinnen Williams, two key additions this offseason, also were unavailable.
That led to the Jets falling to 0-2 on the season, and with the way their schedule is shaping out, they could easily be looking at going 0-6 to start the season. That would mean the season is likely lost, and there are already whispers of holding Darnold out for the entire season, as you never know with the kind of illness he currently has.
If the Jets are picking in the top-5, which is looking more and more likely every week, they should look to bring in the most dynamic wide receiver in this draft class. Darnold would like nothing more than to have another weapon on the outside, and in Jerry Jeudy from Alabama, they would get a guy who can come in and instantly be that true WR1 that this team is so desperately lacking.
The Washington Redskins have gotten out to a 2-0 start, and while they have played better than most thought they would, they still have a long way to go. The bottom line is, this is going to be Dwayne Haskins team next season, as the Redskins spent their 2019 first round pick on him, and are expecting him to develop by watching this season.
When Haskins finally becomes the team’s starting quarterback, he will have a legitimate wide receiver at the top of the depth chart, as fellow Ohio State rookie Terry McLaurin has become just that in year one. However, he is going to need more help up front, so it makes sense for the team to use an early pick on the best offensive tackle in this draft class.
Andrew Thomas from Georgia is the No. 1 offensive lineman in the 2020 NFL Draft class, and he should certainly be the first one taken next April. He has the power, footwork, and size to start right away on the left side at the NFL level, and for a rebuilding Redskins team, adding him to a young offensive unit would be the way to go, especially if picking in the top-5.
