5 bold Premier League predictions: Arsenal win at Old Trafford
4. Bournemouth and West Ham play out five goal thriller
After six games of the Premier League season it’s unlikely that many would have predicted Bournemouth and West Ham to be occupying sixth and fifth place respectively. These are two sides that have slowly been building their squads and are now beginning to look like solid teams.
Both sides had good wins last weekend with Bournemouth triumphing at Southampton on Friday and West Ham impressively beating Manchester United 2-0 on Sunday. A win for either side will place them in the top four and even if it is only for a matter of hours it’s still a big statement from either of these clubs.
Last year, The Cherries got the better of West Ham in both Premier League encounters and they will be hoping that they can make it three on the bounce this weekend. The Hammers had a brilliant win last weekend but then crumpled in the Carabao Cup as they were demolished 4-0 by Oxford United.
No matter what kind of squad the Hammers fielded on Wednesday night, they should not be losing that convincingly to a side at Oxford’s level. They have some making up to their fans to do this weekend when they travel to the south coast but this is a much bigger ask.
Bournemouth also lost in midweek, away at Burton Albion which was another poor result for a Premier League club in the Carabao Cup. That means that both teams will be out to make amends and show that their poor performances were just a one off.
In six matches this season, Bournemouth have netted 11 times and conceded 10 which could mean that we see plenty of goals this weekend. The Hammers have scored 8 and conceded 7 but only two of those goals lost were away from home.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side will look to keep it tight but the pace of Bournemouth on the tight pitch at the Vitality Stadium could be too much for them. Callum Wilson will open the scoring for the Cherries before Felipe Anderson pegs Eddie Howe’s side back.
The south coast side will then storm into a 3-1 lead before West Ham grab a late consolation courtesy of Sebastien Haller.
