10. Jamie Newman, QB, Wake Forest

With the Wake Forest Demon Deacons moving to 5-0, it’s really time that people start taking notice. Last week, wide receiver Sage Surratt from Wake Forest brought up the rear at No. 10 in these rankings. But after a pedestrian four-catch, 31-yard, one-touchdown performance, it’s his own quarterback, Jamie Newman, that supplants him after a big game in a win over Boston College.

Against the Eagles, Newman went 21-of-33 for 243 yards, two touchdowns and an interception but helped his day greatly with 23 carries for 102 yards as well. Completing 69.6 percent of his passes for 1,521 yards, 14 touchdowns and only three interceptions while having 262 rushing yards and three more touchdowns at the helm of an unbeaten team, it’s impossible to ignore Newman.

9. Jerry Jeudy, WR, Alabama

In many other weeks, Jerry Jeudy would have had one of the better days for a wide receiver in college football. The potential first-round pick in 2020 caught eight balls for 84 yards on the day and was clearly one of the best players on the field against Ole Miss. However, his own teammate in DeVonta Smith overshadowed Jeudy immensely with a 274-yard, five-touchdown showing.

Though Jeudy has just two 100-yard receiving days on the season, you could argue he’s been the most consistent pass-catcher in the country. He’s had at least 60 yards in every game and at 84 or more in four of the five outings — and that’s while totaling 488 yards and six touchdowns overall. If Jeudy can continue that, he should be in the running for the award in some capacity.
