NFL quarterback rankings, Week 5: Deshaun Watson needs help
Eric Hipple Division
28. Mason Rudolph (LW: 30)
The media was really excited about Rudolph, but he played a mediocre game against the 49ers in his first start. Against Cincinnati, Rudolph continued the trend of hitting short passes with the exception of his long-ball touchdown. So far, nothing special.
27. Joe Flacco (LW: 27)
Flacco’s numbers aren’t bad. He’s thrown for 1,076 yards and five touchdowns. The problem is a lack of big plays and the occasional massive mistake. We saw such an error with Denver up 17-3 on Sunday, driving for more late in the second quarter. Flacco sailed a short, wide-open throw to Emmanuel Sanders. It was picked off. Everything changed. Denver lost.
26. Kyle Allen (LW: 29)
Allen has done a really nice job for Carolina as Cam Newton continues to recover. In two games, Allen is completing more than 71 percent of his attempts with four touchdowns and no interceptions. He’s not making huge plays, but he isn’t making huge mistakes, either.
25. Teddy Bridgewater (LW: 26)
Bridgewater is the epitome of a game-manager. The Saints are winning because of an underrated defense, a great ground game and a smart head coach. Bridgewater is simply staying out of the way, something most backups can’t do.
24. Kyler Murray (LW: 20)
Murray is a tough evaluation. He can make all the throws. He’s tough and incredibly athletic. However, the numbers are middling because of a terrible team around him and some self-inflicted, youthful errors.
23. Josh Allen (LW: 17)
Hopefully Allen can come back soon from concussion protocol. Injuries aside, the turnovers need to stop. Allen has all the physical gifts, but he makes far too many avoidable mistakes. Buffalo isn’t good enough yet to overcome multiple turnovers every week.
