Fantasy football lineup advice: Week 5 BOOM or BUST!
Fantasy football lineup advice – Quarterback
BOOM:
Jacoby Brissett, IND @ KC
Through four games, Brissett has quietly posted back-end QB1 numbers, averaging a modest 19 fantasy points per game. He’s taken care of the ball, throwing 10 touchdowns compared to just two interceptions. Against the Raiders in Week 4, Brissett threw the ball nearly 50 times on his way to a season-high 22.5 fantasy points, all without top receiver T.Y. Hilton. This week, it looks like he may get his favorite weapon back.
The passing volume should be there again for Brissett against Kansas City in what figures to be a high-scoring shootout at Arrowhead Stadium. The Colts are going to need his offense to stay in this game, especially with questions surrounding RB Marlon Mack‘s injury status. The Chiefs have allowed the ninth-most fantasy points to QBs this year, making Brissett a strong starting option.
BUST:
Philip Rivers, LAC. vs DEN
In this stage of his career, Rivers is simply a matchup-dependent streaming option. He’s had to make due with a banged-up receiving corps over the past several weeks, barely eclipsing 20 fantasy points even against one of the league’s worst defenses in Miami. As Rivers showed against the Lions (10.9 points), he’s had a hard time producing against better secondaries.
While the Broncos have been trampled by enemy running-backs this season, they’ve been stout against the pass, giving up just 12.6 FPPG to the quarterback position. With Melvin Gordon now back in the mix, the team will likely turn to a strong ground game to get the job done in this one. Not to mention Rivers’ top target, Keenan Allen, has struggled against Denver throughout his career.
Sleeper:
Sam Darnold, NJY @ PHI
After battling Mononucleosis over the past several weeks, Darnold has a shot to return against the Eagles following the Jets’ bye. Philadelphia is currently decimated with injuries in their secondary, something that should allow Darnold to fare well in his first game action since opening week. So far this year, the Eagles are allowing 22.5 FPPG to signal-callers, fourth-most in football.
