5 bold Premier League predictions: Newcastle beat Manchester United
2. Brighton triumph over Tottenham
The Premier League weekend is opened up by Brighton and Tottenham as the London club make the trip to the south coast. Graham Potter’s side have struggled since their opening day victory over Watford but they might fancy their chances of taking a scalp this weekend.
Spurs will be in a fragile state after their midweek humiliation in the Champions League when Bayern Munich tore them to shreds. Brighton need to play on this fragility and get in Tottenham’s faces early if they are to take anything from this match.
Mauricio Pochettino and his side are hurting and have a point to prove on Saturday so they won’t want to start this game slowly. There should be no fear from Brighton though as nobody will be expecting them to win this matchup in the first place.
That should make this an exciting game as both teams like to play soccer the right way too. Graham Potter will make sure that his team have a good go at Spurs whilst being respectful of the quality of their opponents.
The big issue for the London club is currently at the back. The defensive line is incredibly suspect at the moment with the likes of Jan Vertonghen and Serge Aurier looking particularly unreliable. Aurier won’t be available for this match which will make Pochettino’s line-up even more interesting this weekend.
With this in mind, the sale of Kieran Trippier is looking stranger with every week that passes. Trippier was not the most solid defender but he seemed far more reliable than Aurier or Davinson Sanchez has looked in this position. Kyle Walker-Peters probably looks like the best option for Spurs right now despite his young age.
This game will be closer than most would expect and Brighton’s home advantage will propel them to a 2-1 victory over Spurs.
