EPL DFS – Value Defenders

Caglar Soyuncu (Leicester @ Liverpool, $12) – Soyuncu has more than solidified his starting spot so far this season with some consistent play on the field that has led to consistent fantasy performances too.  Aside from one tough game, he’s been in double digits in all 6 of the other games with 4 of them over his current price point of $12.  His offensive upside is zilch, but he gets almost all the defensive peripherals.  Liverpool will control this game which should allow Soyuncu plenty of opportunities to load up on those peripherals.  He’s a good option at the higher end of the value defenders.

More from DFS

Ben Chilwell ($11) has been in double digits in 4 straight games, so if you need to save $1, take a look at him in this matchup.

Issa Diop (Crystal Palace @ West Ham, $12) – I’m looking at Diop for his consistency just like Soyuncu.  Only 1 of his 7 games has been lower than 13 fantasy points and that was way back in week 1.  His reliance on a variety of defensive peripherals helped him establish a safe floor, but his 20+ point upside isn’t much.  There won’t necessarily be a ton of peripherals for him to get in this game, but a clean sheet is a definite possibility with Palace’s poor scoring.

Jose Holebas (Sheffield United @ Watford, $10) – The story is similar with Holebas as it was with Soyuncu and Diop.  Consistency.  The best value guys on any given slate are the guys that can get you 13-20 fantasy points week in and week out.  Holebas has 5 straight double-digit games, and while he hasn’t been over 16 points, he’s as sure of a thing as you can get for $10.

George Baldock (Sheffield United @ Watford, $11) – Baldock is as much of an attacking defender as you’ll ever find on a team like Sheffield United.  This is probably one of the best matchups where he can actually do some attacking and he’ll definitely need to do some defending as well on the road.  He’s very affordable for the number of defensive (+ chances created) stats he’ll get on Saturday.  On top of that, Watford hasn’t scored much this season and Sheffield’s defense has been tight meaning a clean sheet bonus could be a possibility.

EPL DFS – Goalkeepers

Dean Henderson (Sheffield United @ Watford, $13) – Henderson is quickly becoming one of soccer DFS’s favorite goalkeepers every week even with his price increase.  Sheffield has only allowed 7 goals in the 7 games they’ve played so far which is impressive for a newly promoted squad.  This weekend, they get a favorable matchup with Watford who have only scored 4 goals in their 7 games.  I’m slightly concerned with this play given that Henderson is playing on the road, but there’s no denying his big upside on this slate.

Nick Pope (Everton @ Burnley, $12) – Two seasons ago Burnely was an elite defensive team.  Last year they weren’t very good at all.  This year seems to be somewhere in between.  They’ve only given up goals to 1 team (Liverpool) when playing at home this season.  They shut out Norwich and Southampton in their other 2 home games.  This could definitely end in another clean sheet given Everton’s inability to score on the road (2 goals in 3 away games).  Pope will have to make some saves, so if he comes away with both bonuses, his fantasy performance could be very big.
