FanDuel NHL Centers: Oct. 4

This position gave me some heart-burn immediately. I want to pick two of some of the top options at the center position, but I know if I do that I could be capping my spending on the winger, defense, and goalie spots and cut down my points.

So, I actually came back to the center position last. However, we’ll start here and work our way down the list of positions.

Fortunately, I found enough value in the winger and defensive roles, and my goalie isn’t too outrageously expensive, that I’m able to pick two top goalie options. The hard part now is, which two?

Well, you could flip a coin between Auston Matthews ($8,600) and John Tavares ($7,700). Obviously Tavares becomes a little more attractive because he’s cheaper and typically on the Leafs top line. But, Matthews has a history of going on massive goal-scoring runs, all the way back to his rookie season.

So, paying up for Matthews frankly has low risk. That being said, I do want to focus on TWO top centers, and snagging Matthews puts me in a bad spending position, yet again. So, between the two, I’m leaning toward Tavares, who I think can still get a goal and assist, and punch through 20 FanDuel NHL points in Columbus tonight.

Mark Scheifele ($7,500) is a solid outlier against the Devils, who could struggle a bit in goal tonight. He should always be in mind for a fade-flip. But, I love how hot the Golden Knights were against the Sharks to start the season.

The Knights are back at it against the Sharks on Friday, and William Karlsson ($6,500) should be a solid value, providing 15 to 20 points on a modest salary.

For a better value, though, consider Kevin Hayes ($5,700). The veteran former Ranger signed with the Flyers this off-season, after a trade at the deadline last year. The Flyers head coach is a huge fan of Kevin, from their days in New York together, and Hayes is playing with some of the Flyers top veteran talent on their top line.

If the Flyers get hot in Prague, Hayes could be a steal on Friday afternoon. Plus, you get to watch him play earlier in the day.

Some other value plays at the position are Nico Hischier ($5,200) and Lars Eller ($4,800). The Caps Eller was one of my favorite value plays to start the season, and with over 24 FanDuel NHL points, he really paid off for that slate. The Caps could have a solid scoring situation again on Friday.

Now let’s take a look at the wings we want to stack along with our centers…
