We’re finally BACK! Who’s ready for another awesome season of FanDuel NHL Blue Line Power Plays? If no one else, well…I am!

Yes, I missed the first two slates of FanDuel NHL this season. With the day job and family matters, it’s sometimes difficult for me to get all of my thoughts down in a post. But, I of course still played, with mixed results.

Early in the season, cashing on FanDuel NHL can be more hit-or-miss than the middle of the year. Last season, I got off to a slow start, as I found my way through some of the newer top lines across the league, and learned guys like Patrik Laine were truly up-and-down type plays.

But, by the middle of the season and into the close of the NHL year, I was able to go on long hot streaks. Having played FanDuel NHL since almost it’s inception, I’ve learned many things about the game, and one of them is the early season is hard to figure out.

First off, we’re going to have some surprise players going on early season hot streaks. Very few will be real season-long surges, so be careful chasing the goal-scorers early. Secondly, even the hottest of typical season-long goalies may struggle to start. And finally, due to the first two, it’s OK to take on more risky plays at this point in the season.

Here’s a look at the NHL schedule for the third opening day of the 2019-2020 Season on Friday, Oct 4:

Blackhawks at Flyers (2:05pm EDT ) over/under 6.5 goals

Note: The Blackhawks and Flyers are playing in the O2 Arena in Prague, Czech Republic

Maple Leafs at Blue Jackets (7pm EDT) over/under 6.5 goals

Jets at Devils (7pm EDT) over/under 6 goals

Capitals at Islanders (7pm EDT) over/under 5.5 goals

Golden Knights at Sharks (10:30pm EDT)  over/under 6 goals

We open our FanDuel NHL day around 2pm EDT, with the Blackhawks and Flyers facing off in Prague to continue the NHL’s global series, for this season. The only way you can get in on that action, is if you’re playing the all-day slate.

We do expect a fairly high-scoring affair in Prague, but we also have several decent high-scoring events for the Main slate this evening. The Blue Jackets and Maple Leafs will likely light the lamp often, mostly likely for the Leafs.

The Caps and Islanders could be the most defensive game of the night, but a good move for goaltender play. That being said, they’re also a great fade-the-chalk consideration. And the Jets and Devils in New Jersey, and Golden Knights and Sharks in San Jose are mildly interesting options.

As always, we’ll look to update our picks and final lineups prior to lock on our twitter account @FantasyCPR or me @MattyMcMatt17 so make sure to give us a follow for all the late breaking lineup news.

Now let’s start building our NHL DFS optimal lineup by looking at the top centers for these slates…
