Top FanDuel NHL Wings: Oct. 4

Before we dive into some of the top plays at winger, I want to talk about value. I’ve been tracking, and watching, many of the Flyers preseason games this year. One of the hottest young players to make the team was Carsen Twarynski ($3,300).

A hot scoring streak helped Twarynski stick out to the Flyers coaching staff, and he become a surprise add to the roster. I admit, this play is a stretch. Carsen may not even play on a power play team, which does limit his value. But, the hot young winger could continue to score, when on the ice for the Flyers third string.

With that risky value play, let’s move on to the top plays.

Yes, Alex Ovechkin ($8,700) is a great play at winger. But that’s like saying Mike Trout is a great FanDuel MLB option…duh! Ovi is often chalky, if not purely for the fact that many FanDuel NHL players often don’t know some of the lesser known players. He’ll likely be in the 20% to 30% ownership range.

That being said, I’d rather grab Mark Stone ($7,500) on a hot Golden Knights line against the Sharks in San Jose. Stone is one of the best steals at the trade deadline last season, and the Knights benefited with his power play goal, assist, and blocked shot with 19 minutes on the ice.

If you’re going with Tavares at Center, Mitch Marner ($7,500) is a solid stacking play. But, there’s so much value in the mid-salary range for the winger position. I’m more likely to snag William Nylander ($5,600), Travis Konecny ($6,000), or Reilly Smith ($5,800).

Smith is probably your safest play. Yes, he’ll be a little chalky after piling up 34 FanDuel NHL points in the opening game. But when Reilly gets hot, he often stays hot for a while, and he already has two goals with five shots after only 14 minutes of ice time.

If you want a few other cheaper options with high upside, Oskar Lindblom ($4,700) and Nikolaj Ehlers ($4,700) could be under-priced for these match-ups. As a combo, they also give you a shot at over 30 points while spending more cash on bigger plays like Ovi, or Auston Matthews.
