Late DraftKings college football running back picks October 5

Top Tier:

Washington got Salvon Ahmed back in earnest against USC and we see what an effect he can have on that offense. Stanford’s run defense has been better than the pass D, but I’m still not sure they can stop Ahmed.

Middle Tier:

Regardless of the status of Juwan Washington, the San Diego State backs are in a great spot. Colorado State has been carved up by running backs all season long. I like Chance Bell regardless, but Jordan Byrd should probably only be used if Washington is out.

UNLV’s run defense is almost as bad as Colorado State’s. Almost. Robert Mahone hasn’t really had much room to roam since the opener against Florida State. That changes here. Mahone is my favorite back on the slate. I’m just hoping that George Holani doesn’t poach too many carries. He only toted the rock five times against Air Force for six yards, so I feel pretty good about Mahone.

Bargain Shoppers:

This could be a sneaky spot for Cameron Scarlett. His price is lower than I was expecting, which opens up some value. Washington’s run defense is good, but if Stanford keeps this close, Scarlett should still come close to 100 yards and a touchdown. For the price, that’s a huge bargain.

Charles Williams left the Wyoming game after just five carries with a knee sprain. UNLV is expecting him to play this week. If he does, there is potential here. Williams has 455 yards rushing over the first three games. The Rebels run him whether they are in the game or not.

If Charles Williams can’t go, Darran Williams could be worth a look. However, he’s not nearly as explosive as the lead back and could end up losing some carries to Tyree Jackson. Darran would have a short leash whereas Charles Williams does not if healthy.
