NBA Preseason DFS: Tuesday, 10/8 – Rubio’s revenge and the Unicorn returns!
By Dan Palyo
NBA Preseason DFS: Mavericks @ Thunder
Dallas: Dwight Powell and Andre Roberson are OUT.
Oklahoma City: J.J. Barea is OUT.
The Thunder are going to look a lot different this year with Russell Westbook gone to Houston and Paul George joining the Clippers. Chris Paul is the new veteran leader of the team and is surrounded by a bunch of role players. This team should be solid defensively but could struggle to score at times. Chris Paul is overpriced on FanDuel, but cheap on Draftkings and definitely in play tonight.
My favorite plays are Dennis Schroder and Danilo Gallinari who should both take on a lot of the scoring burden this season. Gallo can get buckets and Schroder is a massive usage player off the bench as the sixth man. Second-year player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been impressive in camp and could end up playing more minutes than Paul or Schroder as the youngest of the trio of combo guards on the team. Steven Adams and Nerlens Noel could both produce here in this spot, too, against a Dallas team that struggles to defend big men.
Kristaps Porzingis will play in this game, but I think we should temper expectations. It’s not likely they let him play that many minutes as he makes his way back from injury. Fellow Euro-baller Luka Doncic, however, is an elite play in all formats as he looks to build on an impressive rookie season. Luka is a triple-double threat every night with regular minutes so 20 minutes of action tonight would be plenty for him to pile up the stats.
Boban and Maxi Kleber could soak up some of Dwight Powell’s minutes and both have solid per-minute upside. Tim Hardaway is a streaky shooter (and nothing more, Tulloch!) but certainly could get hot from outside and should get a good amount of open looks this year with defenses focusing on Luka and Kristaps.
Elite Plays: Danilo Gallinari, Dennis Schroder, Luka Doncic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
Also Consider: Chris Paul, Steven Adams, Nerlens Noel, Boban Marjanovic, Maxi Kleber
