3. Kirk Cousins, Minnesota Vikings

After a dismal performance against the Chicago Bears in Week 4, Cousins has delivered quite well. He has topped 300 yards through the air in each of the last two games (over 11 yards per attempt in each) while completing 44 of 56 total passes with six touchdowns and one interception.

It’s worth noting those last two opponents, the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles, have allowed the fifth and 13th-most fantasy points to quarterbacks this season and are both in the bottom-five of the league in raw passing yardage allowed.  His Week 7 opponent, the Detroit Lions, are, not as generous in terms of fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks (16th-most; Yahoo! scoring). But they do have the league’s 28th-ranked pass defense.

Week 8 and Week 9 bring another pair of favorable matchups for Cousins, as the Washington Redskins (eighth-most) and Kansas City Chiefs (seventh-most) both entered Week 7 in the bottom-10 of the league against quarterbacks (Yahoo! scoring).

Cousins has needed volume to deliver QB1 fantasy numbers the last two weeks, and Week 7 is likely to not be quite as good. But Week 8 and 9 present a pretty nice set of matchups for the Vikings’ signal-caller, and if Mahomes misses minimal time that’s the majority base of what someone will really need from a replacement
