No. 4: Todd Grantham – Florida defensive coordinator

Aranda isn’t the only brilliant defensive mind on this list. Todd Grantham is another great defensive coordinator that Mississippi State should consider should they need a new head coach. Grantham, currently the defensive coordinator in Gainesville for the Florida Gators, certainly has plenty of experience coaching in the Southeastern Conference and could bring plenty of experience to Starkville.

It wasn’t that long ago that Grantham was actually coaching in Starkville. He joined Dan Mullen’s Mississippi State staff for the 2017 season. When Mullen left for Florida, Grantham ended up going with him, leaving Starkville behind.

But, that doesn’t mean that Mississippi State shouldn’t at least try to pursue Grantham as a head coaching candidate. If anything, his familiarity with the program, including its upsides and its limitations, might make him the best possible candidate for Cohen to consider.

Grantham is familiar with exactly how difficult it can be to win at Mississippi State. He’s also almost certainly familiar with the state of Mississippi and what Mullen was able to do to succeed in Starkville. Grantham’s time under Mullen, in both Starkville and Gainesville, should give him plenty of insight into what he could do to win with the Bulldogs.

He’s coached around the South and would be a familiar presence for recruits in the region. That would potentially pay off for Mississippi State down the road.
