Fantasy football picks: Week 7 MNF Patriots vs. Jets

Tom Brady – Brady has had a pretty successful career against the Jets. He is ranked sixth in DYAR, seventh in DVOA, with 1,600 yards, ten scores, three interceptions, and a 65.9% completion rate on the year. The Jets are ranked in the middle of the pack against quarterbacks, and DVOA against the pass. There has only been one bad game for Brady which came again the stingy defense of Buffalo. We have to assume that this will be a very popular play in cash games as the Jets have very little to offer on the offensive side of the ball.

Sam Darnold – Basically everything in my body is saying do not touch Darnold in this game. If it was any other circumstance, I would have to roll with my gut and avoid him. This is a one gamer though and we have to look at virtually any, and every option. We have a very small sample size to work with considering Sam has had some sort of illness for all but two games. He did play recently and looked pretty decent against Dallas scoring twice, throwing for just over 300 yards, and a pick.

New England has the top-ranked defense in the league, with no apparent weaknesses. They rank first in overall DVOA, second against the pass, third against the rush. The theory behind this play is New York will be forced to pass often in order to try to keep up with the Patriots. Now I am not going to say Darnold is going to have a 30 point game. What he might do is throw a good bit of yards, and maybe two scores if he gets some serious help. For this reason, I will reserve him as a GPP play only.
