DraftKings NBA Picks October 22: Old faces, new places
By Mike Marteny
DraftKings NBA Point Guards:
Best Bets:
For now, the Lakers seem committed to using LeBron at the point. We’ll see how long that lasts. We can still use him at SF, and due to the relative weakness of that position with Zion out, it’s certainly a welcome option.
Oh, who am I kidding? LeBron is the guy you want tonight. Whenever LeBron is the biggest ticket in town, he puts up a huge game. With only two games going on and it being the battle of L.A., this is the single most important thing going on in the world at 7:10 pm pacific time. This is one of those places LeBron usually dominates.
Honorable Mention:
Another reason to use LeBron at SF or F is because point guard actually looks really good here. Kyle Lowry has his best games of last year when Kawhi was resting. Saying that Lowry doesn’t have any talent around him is off base. There is still plenty of talent on this team, but Lowry is the leading. He’s a steal at $6,800.
I kind of want to see how the Clippers shake out before I go and pay this kind of price for Lou Williams. On a small slate like this I have no issue playing him, but that’s going to change when these slates start getting bigger.
Dark Horse:
There’s a ton of value at point. Two starters and one very intriguing play are all $5,400 or less. I have little interest in Lonzo Ball. That’s just exacerbated when facing a team like the Raptors. So we can narrow this down a little bit already.
Patrick Beverley is the starter for the Clippers. He wont play the traditional starter’s minutes of most NBA point guards, but at this price, that really doesn’t matter. Beverley is a great facilitator. If he weren’t, LouWill would be starting instead. You aren’t going to rack up a lot of points from Beverley, but I like his style and his price.
Rajon Rondo is the really interesting piece to me. Are the Lakers really going to leave LeBron starting at point with a guy like Rondo here? Rondo has been an elite creator over the course of his career. That’s why the Lakers signed him, right? I would expect Rondo to get a healthy dose of ball handling duty here even if he only plays around 25 minutes. Now that Rondo is questionable, LeBron is even more of a lock than he was about 12 hours ago. If Rondo is out, Quinn Cook makes a very interesting punt.
My pick: LeBron(PG)
