Running Backs

Running back is another position that I predicted about half of the top 12. Two of my favorite plays last week, Leonard Fournette and Josh Jacobs, rounded out the top 12, underperforming a bit. Dalvin Cook was a solid top-three back like he seems to have been all season.

Saquon Barkley didn’t quite set the world on fire in his return to action but was a top ten play nonetheless. Ezekiel Elliott and Derrick Henry both ended up within two spots of their ranking, and I had an Arizona Cardinals running back in the top four, but his name wasn’t Chase Edmonds.

Latavius Murray made it back-to-back weeks that a running back has thrived against the vaunted Bears defense, so that matchup shouldn’t scare people off like it once did. Austin Ekeler outperformed Melvin Gordon once again in fantasy football, and Sony Michel actually got to score a couple of the Pats TDs this week.

It’ll be strength versus strength when Christian McCaffrey goes up against the stout Niners defense this week. I think CMC is just too versatile and too talented to not have an elite fantasy football day no matter who he is facing at this point.

I think Saquon will be back to being full Saquon this week and show why he was taken by most as the number one pick (at least I hope so, as someone who did just that). He should also be matchup-proof once he gets his legs back under him and he is facing a Detroit defense that allowed Dalvin Cook to be RB3 last week.

Todd Gurley and James Conner should be able to run all over the two teams heading the “Tank for Tua” movement, and Alvin Kamara has a great matchup against the Cards if he is able to go on Sunday. I like both Leonard Fournette and LeVeon Bell in that JAC vs NYJ game, and I think Melvin Gordon finally gets in going this week against those struggling Bears.

I love Nick Chubb as a runner and as a fantasy football contributor, but I think the Patriots hone in on stopping him and make Baker beat them with his arm and shaky decision making. Still a good play no matter what, but I’d temper expectations this week and avoid him in DFS cash games.

Chase Edmonds should see the bulk of the workload again this week but has a very tough task to put up numbers against a very goo Saints defense. Joe Mixon is pretty much dead to me for fantasy football but his talent still gives him the potential to break out any given week, so he is still fringe top 25. I also expect the Eagles running backs to struggle, and the Chiefs and Broncos backs may spread the love a little too thin to make any one guy all that fantasy relevant.
