NBA DFS Picks and Pivots – Game Stack
With Doncic as my one-off stud, the next step is finding a game stack to build around with a Lakers-Grizzlies game that offers the perfect blend of game environment, high-ceiling stars and value plays to make it all work.

I mentioned on Sunday how the Grizzlies were playing at one of the fastest paces in the NBA to start the season, now ranking 2nd in the NBA with a new head coach and young athletic team that is going to make people forget about th slow-paced Grind City days. The Grizzlies-Nets were completely overlooked on Sunday’s shorter slate which allowed us to roster guys like Kyrie Irving and Ja Morant at single-digit ownership in what ended up being an OT game stack that paid off nicely.
Tonight, this fast-paced Grizzlies squad gets to face off with the Lebron James – Anthony Davis led Lakers in a game that if it can stay close offers you multiple paths to ceiling games.
The Lakers side of this game is easy – it all starts with Anthony Davis ($18.1K) and LeBron James ($17.7K) who are the clear #1 and #2 options on offense and you could argue are also the number 3,4 and 5 options when you look at the rest fo role players in LA.
The truth here is I think both players are over-priced considering the shared usage and capped ceiling that have been evident early on this season with neither player topping 60 fantasy points in six combined games. The other side of the coin here is that raw points matter on a slate of this size and with the context that you can still lock-in Doncic and stack a cheap Grizzlies team – you are able to swallow the slight overpay here with relative ease.
The rest of the Lakers squad is nothing more than value fill-ins on a slate where value is hard to come by – and your simply looking at punts like Avery Bradley and Quinn Cook as sub $7K options with 25-ish minute roles assuming Rajon Rondo remains sidelined.
The Grizzlies meanwhile have a clear #1-#2 stack of there own – one that costs far less than the Lakers side – with Ja Morant ($13.1K) and Jaren Jackson Jr. ($12.3K). With a 12 point Vegas spread, the only way this game stays close is to have Memphis rely on these two with Morant needing to flash the aggressive style of play he did against the Nets which carried him to 50+ fantasy points in an OT win.
Dillon Brooks ($7.8K) is the clear guard correlation here with Morant, a scoring dependent player who racked up 21 points with consistent open looks off Morant’s penetration against the Nets. Brooks also became the lone offensive weapon whenever Morant came off the court as Memphis was forced to lean on guys like Kyle Anderson and Solomon Hill for offense when Morant needed a breather.
I would reserve this game stack for GPP’s only because I do think there is a considerable risk of this game getting out of hand in LA if Morant and JJ aren’t able to shoulder the load off an emotional home win in OT against Brooklyn. However, the opposite is also true – if they can keep this game close it would push AD and Bron to play their maximum minutes which puts them in a scenario whey they can both put up ceiling type games.
