Kirk Cousins, Vikings offense could have field day vs. Chiefs
By John Buhler
Kirk Cousins and the Minnesota Vikings offense could be in for a big day when they take on the underwhelming Kansas City Chiefs defense on Sunday.
In one of the more interesting games of the Week 9 slate, the Kansas City Chiefs will host the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday afternoon at Arrowhead. While Kirk Cousins would normally be the second best quarterback in this game, he’ll likely be going up against veteran backup Matt Moore who will be filling in for an injured Patrick Mahomes for a second week in a row.
Cousins has played very well for the last month and despite a so-so showing against the Washington Redskins on Thursday Night Football back in Week 8, there is reason to believe that he and the Vikings offense will be in for a great showing on Sunday afternoon vs. the Chiefs. Or at least The Fantasy Footballers think so.

When he is playing his best, Cousins is able to use a strong running game to open up the play-action pass. As one of the most accurate passers in NFL history, getting Cousins in rhythm early against a strong team like the Chiefs will be key for the Vikings on Sunday. Fortunately, the recipe for success for his team isn’t all that hard to find.
The Vikings should have a tremendous mismatch when it comes to running the football all over Kansas City. The Chiefs have given up rushing yards seemingly at will this season. Minnesota has one of the best tailbacks in football in Dalvin Cook who is having his breakout season in year three out of Florida State. Look for him to do big things on Sunday in addition to Cousins.
So with a strong ground game to lean on, look for Cousins to distribute the football all over the gridiron to his bevy of receivers. Should wide receiver Adam Thielen be back from a hamstring injury, this could make things even more challenging for the Chiefs defense. Add in that this is not a primetime game, a time slot where Cousins normally struggles, and this could get ugly fast.
Overall, we’re still probably going to get a good game between the Vikings and the Chiefs. Moore played well on Sunday Night Football last week against the Green Bay Packers, certainly holding his own against Aaron Rodgers. If he can play like that again, maybe the Chiefs find a way to hand the Vikings their third loss of the season?
