4. Chase Young, EDGE, Ohio State

As we’ve covered time and again, it’s a near-impossible task for a defensive player to win the Heisman Trophy. But also as we’ve discussed throughout the 2019 season, Chase Young has done everything that a defensive player would need to do to be considered for the most prestigious individual award in college football. The Ohio State defensive end is a monster that no offensive line can stop.

Despite routinely playing very little in the second half, Young has still managed to rank fourth on the Buckeyes with 29 total tackles on the year. More importantly, he’s been getting to the quarterback at an unbelievable rate, already accruing 13.5 sacks through only eight games. It’s hard to imagine anyone stopping him this season and, if he keeps up this level of play, he could put up historic sack numbers and find himself with an invitation to New York.

3. Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Alabama

Whether Tua Tagovailoa plays in the Week 11 matchup against No. 1 Tigers will do a lot to determine whether he remains a top-three candidate. After having missed just one full game due to his ankle injury, though, Tagovailoa has done enough with his winning and production to stay in the mix with the top players in the Heisman race.

The junior quarterback has completed an unbelievably 74.7 percent of his passes while throwing for 2,166 yards, 27 touchdowns and only two interceptions, adding two rushing touchdowns to his total as well. Tua has been as good as advertised in the 2019 campaign. Hopefully, he can maintain that as he gets back onto the field for the final run of Bama’s SEC schedule.
