8. Ja’Marr Chase, WR, LSU

Ja’Marr Chase made his debut on the Heisman rankings last week at No. 8 and he stays there as the sophomore wide receiver continued to wow with big plays and high-level production for the LSU Tigers. Chase had a big part in taking Arkansas to the cleaners on Saturday night, catching six passes for 144 yards and two touchdowns.

Part of an explosive and deep receiving corps for the Tigers, Chase has been the standout of the group — which is saying quite a lot in itself. The wideout now has 1,260 yards on 63 catches to go with 15 touchdowns on the season. He’s been the most consistent force at wide receiver this season and is deserving of any recognition he receives for his efforts.

7. Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State

The high-profile matchup against Penn State was Justin Fields’ opportunity to cement himself as a Heisman Trophy finalist. This was always going to be Ohio State’s biggest test of the season and that played out truly on Saturday in Columbus. And as they were tested, Fields did not take advantage of the opportunity to secure his bid to New York in mid-December.

Fields was an impressive 16-of-22 on the day but threw for only 188 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 68 yards. More troubling than that, the quarterback also coughed up the ball three times, losing two of those fumbles, including one on the goal line that would’ve been a rushing touchdown had he held on.

He’s remained a touchdown machine this season but with pedestrian yardage totals and that type of showing in the biggest game of his season, he gets knocked down a peg.
