NXT Champion Adam Cole vs. Pete Dunne

It’s never easy to follow a very good match, especially one featuring Styles, Shinsuke and Strong but Adam Cole and Pete Dunne, both of whom really had no business even wrestling after what they put themselves through at WarGames on Saturday night, put on a phenomenal NXT Championship Match at Survivor Series. This was the first time the NXT Championship had been defended on a “main roster” pay-per-view and Cole and Dunne took full advantage of the opportunity.

The Panama Sunrise from Cole to Dunne on the apron may have been the highlight of the match but there were so many good spots in this bout and the storytelling was fantastic as well. Dunne targeted the injured elbow of the champ throughout the match but Cole was able to fight back each and every time.

As you would expect on a big show, both kicked out of the other’s finisher once but Cole got the better of things the second time around, fighting off the Bitter End into a second Panama Sunrise and then finishing off the challenger with the Last Shot. Excellent match that once again showcased how strong the NXT brand is.

What’s next: These two will battle again in the future. With Dunne choosing to spend his time in the States, he’s going to be challenging for titles for a very long time and I’ll watch this match any day of the week. Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday…I really don’t care. But I’m not sure he gets another chance right away. Cole has plenty of people lining up for a shot and we’ll see who the next guy up is very soon, I’m sure.
