1. Alabama Crimson Tide

Rank: 5 | Opponent: 15 Auburn Tigers | Time: Saturday, Nov. 30, 3:30 p.m. ET

The Alabama Crimson Tide, quite obviously, are not the team that they’ve been throughout the 2019 college football season. With Mac Jones in at quarterback for the injured Tua Tagovailoa, they simply aren’t the same high-octane offense that we’ve seen them be in years past. Or at least that’s what we have to assume at this point.

Jones has been the starting quarterback for Nick Saban’s team in two games this season, taking on Arkansas and Western Carolina. Both of those teams were absolutely no match for both the weaponry that the Crimson Tide have around the quarterback on offense and the talent of the Alabama defense. Thus, we don’t know what Jones and this group will look like when up against a very good team and a rival like the Auburn Tigers.

Make no mistake, Auburn is far from a perfect team. Bo Nix has been erratic in his freshman season and the offense has suffered because of that. However, the Tigers have an elite caliber defense and Nix has been dangerous as a runner this season, even if his passing can’t totally be trusted. What Auburn does well could cause immense trouble for Jones and rival Alabama.

If the Tigers defensive front is able to pressure Jones and force him into bad, inexperienced decisions, the Crimson Tide offense can struggle to put up the big numbers we’ve seen from them all year. Moreover, the Bama defense has struggled against running quarterbacks this season and Nix can potentially take advantage of that. And if those things happen, Alabama’s College Football Playoff hopes will go down the drain with an Iron Bowl loss.
