3. Lane Kiffin, Florida Atlantic Head Coach

The formerly embattled Kiffin has found a soft landing in Boca Raton, with 11 wins in his first season (2017) at Florida Atlantic and nine wins this year and a chance to match 2017 if the Owls can win Saturday’s Conference USA title game and their bowl game.

As comfortable as he may be at FAU, Kiffin would surely like another shot a bigger school if he can find an opportunity that fits. It’s hard to see many great fits among current openings (Arkansas?, Ole Miss?, Missouri?), so maybe another school that isn’t easily mentioned would consider a run at him. Maybe Kiffin would listen, or use it as leverage for a new deal at FAU.

Any lingering bad vibe his name may still carry aside, Kiffin would surely bring some spark to Boston College’s football program. After the boring middle ground stomped by Addazio over the last seven years, it would either be a great success that lasts for a chunk of years or a spectacular failure that’s over in short order.

Kiffin is still only 44 years old, so he may very well remain at Florida Atlantic and try to have another successful season with an eye on possible better bigger jobs a year from now. But depending on how deep Boston College wants to dive, Kiffin belongs in the very early pool of potential candidates.
