850. . ILB. Gamecocks . Len'Neth Whitehead. 28. player

  • High School: Athens Academy (Athens, GA)
  • Composite Ranking: No. 181, No. 10 ILB

Also a running back at the high school level, Len’Neth Whitehead is expected to play inside linebacker at the college level. Whitehead’s versatility and athleticism have turned eyes around the country.

The linebacker has offers from schools such as Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee and UCLA among others. The push for Whitehead has really picked up over the last few weeks with the recruit visiting South Carolina and Chip Kelly visiting the Athens Academy.

At 6-foot-1 and 230 pounds, Whitehead possesses good size for his age and can provide a bit of thump from the inside position with his power. Looking at where he can end up, the Crystal ball is split between South Carolina, Tennessee and him being undecided.

Tennessee and South Carolina are both in dire need of inside linebackers. The Gamecocks don’t have any commitments at the position at the moment while Tennesse has a couple but none on their roster outlook. South Carolina has had the most recent visit, so it’s about a toss-up as any recruit. Don’t rule out UCLA’s recent visit either.

Prediction: South Carolina

27. player. 814. . S. Bulldogs . Eric Reed

  • High School: Calvary Baptist Academy (Shreveport, LA)
  • Composite Ranking: No. 176, No. 16 S

Safety Eric Reed is one of the recruits that has announced he will be signing on Early National Signing Day. Reed’s final four teams are Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame and Auburn.

The 6-foot-1 safety fits the ideal mold of today’s defensive back with a large frame with equal athleticism to match. Reed is a safety but has played other positions in the defensive backfield across his high school career.

With three of his final four schools being in the SEC, Reed’s reputation as a big hitter will serve him well. His 4.62 40-yard dash likely makes him more suited for a safety role than say a cornerback at the next level.

When it comes to predicting his next destination, the safe picks seem to be either Georgia or LSU, according to the lead experts for each program at 247. Reading the tea leaves this time of the year, Reed visited Georgia on Dec. 13. With his signing coming five days later, that might be a big sign he’s going to become a Bulldog.

Prediction: Georgia
