2. Aubameyang scores twice in Arsenal victory over Chelsea

Arsenal host Chelsea on Sunday in a match-up that has had much more importance in the past. With Arsenal’s struggles this season and Chelsea’s inconsistency, this game doesn’t have that “big game” feeling which it once had.

Instead this game feels like it will be two sides going against each other in attempt to prove to their own supporters that they’re capable enough to be challenging at the top end of this league. Chelsea are just about doing that this season but have had some very poor results lately, most notably in home losses to Bournemouth and Southampton.

These are the kind of results many Chelsea fans were expecting from the off when Frank Lampard took over. They didn’t materialize though and instead, Lampard put together a solid run of form despite never having managed in England’s top flight before.

The former Chelsea midfielder is doing well in his first season in charge of the Blues but he will know that he has plenty of room for improvement. One very positive thing he has going for him is his side’s ability to turn up for the big occasions. They’ve won away at Ajax and Tottenham this season as well as running both Manchester City and Liverpool close in 2-1 losses.

Chelsea should, therefore, have no fear when making a very short trip to face Arsenal this weekend. The Gunners have had a torrid season but are only 8 points back from 4th place Chelsea. All they need is a good run of form to take them back into top-four contention and Arsenal fans will believe that Mikel Arteta can provide this for them.

The Spaniard didn’t get off to the desired winning start on Boxing Day as his side only managed to claim a point away at Bournemouth. Arteta may not have got the win but was happy with the way his side played and the chances they created. They will need to be at their best to beat Chelsea but with players like Aubameyang and Ozil in their line-up, they will always have a chance to win.

Pierre-Emerick Aubmeyang will be central to proceedings this weekend as the Gabonese striker will bag a double for his side in a 2-1 victory. Tammy Abraham will score for Chelsea but it won’t be enough for the Blues as they lose to their close rivals.
