NBA DFS: Studs, scrubs, and duds for January 5, 2020
Top star players, best value picks, and guys you should stay away from on January 5 in NBA DFS on DraftKings and FanDuel.
Welcome to Studs, Scrubs, and Duds; FanSided’s NBA DFS lineup helper.
Here’s what’s on the slate for tonight:
6 p.m. ET: Portland at Miami
7:30 p.m. ET: Minnesota at Cleveland
8 p.m. ET: Memphis at Phoenix
10 p.m. ET: Detroit at LA Lakers
How this works:
Studs: Top high salary picks that you can build your lineup around.
Scrubs: Value players looking for a big night or consistent options to help fill out your lineup.
Duds: Players to avoid given their high salary and/or poor matchup.
Five players are picked on each slide, positions are not applicable, and both DraftKings and FanDuel salaries are listed.
Studs
Hassan Whiteside (at MIA – $8,500 on DK; $9,800 on FD): It’s a revenge game for Whiteside as he returns to Miami. Numbers are rarely an issue for Whiteside and I don’t suspect it’ll be an issue in this game for him either. He should be in for a double double and expect a big rebounding output. Also look for his defense to show up as he chases blocks more often than he usually does.
Bam Adebayo (vs POR – $7,600 on DK; $8,600 on FD): And not to be outdone, Adebayo will make his own impact in the matchup against Whiteside. Like Whiteside, Adebayo always has double double potential and his game is more reliable than what Whiteside gives you, though the upside might not be quite as high. Look towards Jimmy Butler in this matchup as well since Portland should not be trusted.
LeBron James (vs DET – $11,000 on DK; $10,900 on FD): LeBron is the highest salary on the night and I fully expect him to deliver in this position. He has a great matchup against a Pistons team on a back to back and he’s always a triple double threat. He’s going to cost you a pretty penny, but there is enough value on a slow night to help balance out your roster.
Devin Booker (vs MEM – $8,200 on DK; $8,400 on FD): Booker looks to be back in form after struggling a bit to start the season. The Grizzlies are on a back to back and while their performance against the Clippers was impressive, I do wonder how much they have left in their legs. There should be plenty of offense in this game as both teams have some strong scorers.
