9. Penn State

The Nittany Lions got a big-time 53-39 win over Memphis in the Cotton Bowl and will look to make some serious noise in 2020. They return a good amount of starters from this year’s team and have done a great job recruiting, so expect some new names to emerge as well.

They will have to replace the production of K.J. Hamler, who has already declared for the NFL draft, but that could result in this team relying even more on their talented running back room. The combo of Journey Brown and Noah Cain will be one of the best entering 2020, and the return of quarterback Sean Clifford give them stability at signal-caller.

On the other side of the ball, Micah Parsons had his coming out party against Memphis and looks like he will be a dominant force next year.

Penn State has knocked on the door the past few seasons but has fallen short due to close and painful losses to Ohio State. They get the Buckeyes at home in 2020, but it will be at the end of a tough three-game stretch featuring a road game at Michigan and a home matchup with Iowa. If the Nittany Lions can weather that storm, their remaining schedule is favorable, and they could make a return to the Big Ten Championship Game.
