1. Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers are in a peculiar spot for the 2020 draft, especially after the hire of Matt Rhule as their new head coach. We know how talented Cam Newton is, but he’s dealt with so many injuries in the past couple of seasons. Kyle Allen came in as relief in 2019, and it’s clear he isn’t the answer. Neither is 2019 fourth-round pick, Will Grier.

Rhule and company may decide to roll with Newton one more time in 2020 and draft with the best player available strategy this coming April. This team has other big needs, so there’s no problem with that strategy. See if Newton can get you back to the playoffs for the 2020 season with more talent around him (and arguably the best running back in the league).

Now, if Newton gets hurt again, and either Allen or Grier gets significant starting time, the Panthers could end up with a high pick in the 2021 draft. That could mean Trevor Lawrence is within their reach. Adding Lawrence to the Panthers for 2021 could mean Rhule’s turnaround could be quicker than expected and could vault the Panthers into perennial favorites.
