DraftKings PGA – 2020 Farmers Insurance Open Picks

10,300 Justin Rose

Rose is a tremendous golfer. He is not particularly flashy, but he is business on the course. The irons are silky (14th approach), he scores on par 5’s (4th in field), and he is the best golfer in the field on difficult courses. I typically fade Rose, but I cannot do it this week. Do not forget about his course history, with a T4, T8 and a win in his last 3 tries at Torrey.

9,900 Hideki Matsuyama

Matsuyama will be popular this week. He ranks first in my model. He is a brilliant ball-striker, is in solid form, and plays difficult courses well. Matsuyama is one of the best golfers in the world, and I love how he sets up for Torrey Pines. His driver is a weapon, which helps at South, but what makes Hideki perfect for this course is his long iron play. All four par-3’s are over 200 yards, and most of the par-4’s are >450 yards. That sets up for a lot of long irons. If he can figure out the putter, then hopefully he can top his 2019 T3 at Torrey Pines.

8,300 Marc Leishman

Leishman has a tremendous course record here and will be chalky, but I cannot fade him. The Aussie’s love kikuyu grass, and it has been evident by his course history. Leishman has finished T43, T8, T20, MC, T27, and T2 in his last six at Torrey Pines. I love the correlation with guys who played in the Presidents Cup having success these past few weeks (Ancer and Cam Smith). Leishman is striking it well, plays difficult courses well, is ranked 2nd in the field in scrambling, and I love his chances at winning this weekend.
