This week, the European Tour presents Draftkings players with the Omega Dubai Desert Classic. Let’s take a look at this tournament from a fantasy golf perspective!

Before I get into my Draftkings player selections let’s take a look at the golf course the field will play and review the key statistics that I will be focusing on for this week’s event in Dubai.

The Omega Dubai Desert Classic will be played at the Emirates Golf Club in Dubai. This golf course is a par 72 that measures 7,350 yards. Water is in play on ten holes on this track. The course also offers four par 5 holes and bermuda grass greens. It should be noted that this golf course’s main defense is wind. When the wind is high, this golf course can be a very difficult test. However, when the weather is calm, this track is vulnerable to very low scores.

As I evaluated the key statistics of previous winners of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, it became apparent to me early on that this course is set up nicely for pure ball strikers. Just to provide some perspective, the last five winners of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic averaged hitting 77.9% of greens in regulation the week they won the event. It is pretty clear to me that in order to have success at the Emirates Golf Club a golfer will need to consistently pound greens in regulation..

The key statistics that I will be focusing on for this event are GIR (greens in regulation), strokes gained tee to green, scrambling and putts per GIR.

Here are my Draftkings player selections for the Omega Dubai Desert Classic!

Sergio Garcia $10,200

Since 2009, Sergio Garcia has played the Omega Dubai Desert Classic seven times. In that seven tournament span, Garcia has a win in 2017, a third place finish in 2019, a 17th place result in 2013, a 20th place finish in 2011, and an 11th place finish in 2011. That is quite an impressive record at this event. It should also be noted that all the tournament results just noted took place at the Emirates Golf Club.

Sergio arrives at this week’s golf tournament in good form as well. Garcia won the KLM Open is September, finished sixth at the season ending DP World Tour Championship in December, and he finished eighth in last week’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.

Garcia also checks the box for me when it comes to key statistics. Sergio is currently ranked 18th in scrambling (71.43%), 19th in strokes gained around the green (0.89) and 29th in strokes gained tee to green (1.71) on the European Tour.

Henrik Stenson $10,000

The ice man has an outstanding record at this week’s European Tour event. More specifically, Henrik Stenson has three top six finishes in the last four Omega Dubai Desert Classics that he has played. He finished 23rd at last week’s Singapore Open.

Martin Kaymer $8,800

Kaymer finished eighth at last week’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. He also finished 19th at the 2018 Omega Dubai Desert Classic.

Jason Scrivener $7,400

He has two consecutive top seven finishes at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, including a seventh place result at last year’s event.

Scott Hend $6,800

Hend has made the cut at the last four consecutive Omega Dubai Desert Classics, including an eighth place finish in 2016.

Those are my five player selections for the Draftkings contest. If you utilize these five golfers for your Draftkings lineup, you will have $6,800 left to add your sixth and final golfer to your lineup!

As always, good luck!
