NBA Trade Deadline 2020: 10 players who could use a change of scenery
10. Kyle Anderson
When Kyle Anderson signed a four-year, $37.2 million offer sheet with the Memphis Grizzlies in 2018, he was supposed to be something of a foundational piece in their rebuild. He wasn’t a cornerstone by any means, but as a young, effective two-way player on a team-friendly contract, Slow Mo was meant to have a prominent role on a team with room to grow.
Flash forward almost two years and the Grizz hardly use him at all now. Terrific draft lottery luck and superb drafting (Jaren Jackson Jr., Ja Morant, Brandon Clarke) have provided more vital cornerstones. Veteran additions (Jae Crowder, Solomon Hill) are creating roadblocks to playing time, and smart trades (Dillon Brooks, De’Anthony Melton) brought in even more pieces that need developmental minutes. The result is Anderson being put on the backburner.
At this point, Slow Mo is only playing 16.7 minutes per game — a drastic dip from the 29.8 per game he averaged last season. He’s only 26 years old, he’s on an extremely cheap contract and with Memphis’ rebuild moving in a different, speedier direction, there are plenty of teams that might be able to put his two-way talents to better use.
