European Tour DFS Golf: Saudi International DraftKings picks
By Hans Geevers
This week, the European Tour presents the Draftkings/DFS community with the Saudi International!
Before I get into my Draftkings player picks let’s take a look at the golf course the field will play this week and review the key statistics that I think are the most important to a golfer’s success at the Saudi International.
The 2020 Saudi International will be played at the Royal Greens Golf and Country Club in Saudi Arabia. This golf course is a par 70 that measures 7,010 yards. This track features Paspalum fairways and rather large green complexes.
This golf course’s main defense is wind. When the winds are high this course can be difficult. However, if the winds are calm, this track can be vulnerable to low scores. This golf course is near the Red Sea and winds are often a factor.
This is only the second time that this event has been played. The inaugural Saudi International took place in 2019. The 2019 version of this event was also contested on the Royal Greens Golf and Country Club.
The key statistics that I am looking at for the Saudi International are strokes gained approach, driving distance, scrambling, and putts per GIR (greens in regulation).
Here are my Draftkings player picks for the 2020 Saudi International!
Victor Perez $10,200
Yes, I know that a number of highly ranked and very talented golfers are in this week’s field. The names Patrick Reed, Brooks Koepka, and Dustin Johnson are just a few of the names that come to mind. However, for me, I just have concerns about all of the top tier guys that I just mentioned.
Having stated that, I feel more comfortable leading off my Draftkings selections with a European Tour golfer that is currently having outstanding success. That golfer’s name is Victor Perez.
Perez has played rather consistent and outstanding golf over the last four months. Let’s take a look at some of Perez’s quality results in the time period just noted. He won the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in September, finished 16th at the Open de France in October, finished second at the Turkish Airlines Open in November, and lastly he finished second at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship earlier this month.
I also like the fact that Victor Perez has previously shown that he can perform at a high level on the Royal Greens Golf and Country Club. Perez finished 13th at the 2019 Saudi International.
Mike Lorenzo-Vera $8,500
He finished eighth at last week’s Omega Dubai Desert Classic. He also finished second at the DP World Tour Championship in November.
Matthias Schwab $8,600
He finished 23rd at last week’s Omega Dubai Desert Classic. Schwab also finished 24th in last year’s Saudi International.
Min Woo Lee $7,800
Lee finished 15th at the South African Open earlier this month. He currently leads the European Tour in driving distance (344.9). Additionally, Lee finished fourth at the 2019 Saudi International.
Gavin Green $7,600
He has two consecutive top 27 finishes on the European Tour. Green also finished 11th at the 2019 Saudi International.
If you utilize my five Draftkings player selections you will have $7,300 left to use on your last golfer to complete your unique lineup!
As always, good luck!
