3. Cornerback Bradley Roby

The Chiefs’ secondary was also a strength a year ago, with a lot of talented cornerbacks helping defend the pass against the opposition. The issue for the Chiefs is that three of their corners are pending free agents, including starter Kendall Fuller.

The Chiefs will no doubt look to retain Fuller, but the cornerback position will definitely need an infusion of depth in 2020. One solid option for the Chiefs to consider on that front is former Texans’ nickel back Bradley Roby.

A former first round pick of the Denver Broncos, Roby was inconsistent in Denver, forcing a one-year prove-it deal with the Texans. Roby had a solid year in Houston, recording 38 tackles and two interceptions as he helped the Texans advance all the way to the Divisional Round of the playoffs.

Like Beasley before him, there is no question that Roby is a talented player, but he may be better suited being a complementary piece on a top team than a lead dog on a lesser squad. Roby could easily play the nickel spot for the Chiefs and be a key player alongside guys like Tyrann Mathieu and Fuller.

Finances could also be a factor here since the Chiefs are a bit tight against the cap and have other priorities, so a guy like Roby would be a cheaper investment than springing for Byron Jones. Reloading, rather than overpaying for top of the market talent, is often a successful strategy for contenders.
