2. Bolster the wide receiving corps

It’s a franchise that has had a pretty good run at the position. Marvin Harrison was a first-round pick of the Indianapolis Colts in 1996, played his entire career with the club and is enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Five years later, the club opted for University of Miami wideout Reggie Wayne. He followed suit with 1,070 career receptions with the organization. The six-time Pro Bowler was a Pro Football Hall of Fame finalist for the Class of 2020.

In 2012, the Colts used the first overall pick in the draft to grab quarterback Andrew Luck. In the third round, then-GM Ryan Grigson opted for Florida International’s T.Y. Hilton. He’s had quite the eight-year run, totaling an impressive 552 receptions for 8,598 (15.6 average) and 45 scores. The four-time Pro Bowler has totaled at least 1,000 receiving yards in five of those eight campaigns and in 2016 led the league (career-best 1,448 yards) in that category.

But this past season, Hilton was limited to only 10 outings and finished with 45 receptions for 501 yards – all three of those categories. Still, he led the club in receptions and tied for the club lead in scoring grabs (5). The only other wide receiver on the team to catch at least 20 passes was Zach Pascal (41). Of course, 2019 free-agent pick Devin Funchess missed nearly the entire year and rookie Parris Campbell (18 catches, 1 touchdown) played in only seven games before landing on injured reserve. Frank Reich’s offense could definitely use another play-maker or two at the position.
