1. Address the quarterback situation

For the past eight seasons, it’s been a pretty simple formula when it comes to the Indianapolis Colts. In 2012, the franchise made Stanford University quarterback Andrew Luck the first overall pick in the draft. During his rookie campaign and over the following two seasons he started all 16 games and in each of those years the club reach the postseason. Unfortunately, he was not able to duplicate that number in terms of availability in 2015 and ‘16 and the Colts fell short of the playoffs.

Of course, he did not play at all in 2017 and the team tumbled to a 4-12 finish. In ‘18, Luck got off to a slow start but slowly but surely regained his arm strength and led the team to a 10-6 finish and the playoffs after a 1-5 start. His performance earned his NFL Comeback Player of the Year honors.

And then just like that this in August, there was no more Luck as he surprisingly announced his retirement from the NFL just weeks before the story the regular season. Jacoby Brissett got off to a strong start, throwing 14 TD passes and committing just five turnovers in the club’s first six outings. But he was banged up in a loss at Pittsburgh, did not play a week later vs. the Dolphins and struggled with his accuracy late in the year.

Of course, with the team slumping down the stretch, the questions on whether Brissett is the answer behind center have arisen. He, Brian Hoyer and Chad Kelly are the quarterbacks on the roster at the moment. But with a number of veterans possibly ready to test free agency or made available via trade, could GM Chris Ballard have something in mind when it comes to bolstering the position?
