By Raju Byfield
18th Overall: Miami Dolphins – Jerry Jeudy (WR – Alabama)
Team Needs
Quarterback, Offensive Line, Running Back, Safety, Wide Receiver, Edge Rusher
Picks: 5 (1st), 18 (1st), 26 (1st), 39 (2nd), 56 (2nd), 70 (3rd), 105 (3rd), 154 (5th), 163 (5th), 174 (5th), 179 (5th), 197 (6th), 228 (7th), 247 (7th)
The Miami Dolphins have already secured their quarterback of the future, and now they secure their franchise wide receiver. Devante Parker and Preston Williams are both very talented wide receivers, but neither comes close to the talent level of Jerry Jeudy. Jeudy can play both inside and out, and is an ideal motion man due to his instant separation skills. Reuniting with Tua is a dream scenario for both signal caller and wideout, as there will be no acclimation process needed as far as developing an on-field rapport. It is Jeudy, and not Lamb who is likely the most talented wideout in this draft class, and he does indeed possess the higher ceiling. The Dolphins were planning to go edge or offensive line here, but cannot pass up the value Jeudy represents at this stage of the draft.
Team Impact
The addition of Jerry Jeudy will give the Miami Dolphins one of the most talented wide receiver trios in the league. Ryan Fitzpatrick will have a field day with all of these weapons at his disposal, and should throw for well over 4,000 yards if he lasts the whole season as the starter. Tua will be in a position to succeed as soon as he steps onto the field, even if his wide receiver room at Alabama was more talented. With twelve more picks in this draft class alone, Miami will be a brand new team when the 2020 season kicks off.
Fantasy Impact
The Miami Dolphins have not been considered a prime fantasy landing spot apart from depth chart opportunities since Dan Marino sailed off into the sunset. With Tua Tagovailoa on the roster that all changes. Jeudy will be an immediate dynasty league WR1, and will boast WR2 upside in redraft leagues. While he is not on the Julio Jones or Deandre Hopkins spectrum of talent, he is very close, and could very quickly become one of the top five wide receivers in the entire NFL. He will be drafted within the first five or six picks in the majority of dynasty league rookie drafts.
