1. Rockets at Magic, Game 1, 1995 NBA Finals
I recognize this one may not appeal to everyone but it’s one of the first playoff games I can remember watching in its entirety and I’ll argue forever its one of the most classic games in NBA history. This was a slower era of basketball but Houston and Orlando combined to score 238 points and knockdown 23 3-pointers.
You get Shaquille O’Neal and Anfernee Hardaway, healthy and hungry. You get Hakeem Olajuwon, a year removed from winning both MVP and Defensive Player of the Year and just one series removed from thrashing this season’s MVP, David Robinson. You get second-year Sam Cassell and Robert Horry beginning to build his legend for playoff heroics. You get clutch shooting and a heart-breaking finish.
Trust me, it’s a game you’ll be thinking about for a long time.
